Every year on my birthday, I attempt to release something free for you, just to say thank you for liking what I do.

This year it’s an official bootleg featuring some highlights from the 2011 Marc With a C Holiday show, performed in front of a packed house at Stardust Video in Orlando, FL on 12/16/11.

Now, this isn’t the entire show, of course. We had some equipment issues that kept this gig from sounding as stellar as we’d hoped when setting up all of the recording stuff, and the initial plan was to take the three hour show and edit it all into a shorter live album that was somewhat indicative of an average Motherfuckers Be Bullshittin’ era gig – albeit with a few surprises.

Since the whole show was caught on tape, I’ve done just that here for you, but as the results were not as sonically pleasing as I’d hoped due to microphone malfunctions and a PA that was about to crap out at any second? I’ve edited this into an approximation of the live album I’d planned on making… only it’s marred by bootleggy sound quality. You can get an idea of what we were going for, and it’s still a lot of fun to listen to. Not to mention a fun souvenir if you were there!

Oh, and its free to download on a limited-time basis until January 31st. Then it goes offline, and it’s up to you to spread it.

Here’s the tracklist!

01. Drunk Classic Rock Fans

02. Stairway To Rudolph

03. You’re My Princess

04. Motherfuckers Be Bullshittin’

05. Show Me How To Shine Shoes

06. Winter Colors

07. Holly Vincent

08. Love My Little Squiddy

11. Life’s So Hard

12. “Terrorthumping”

(Chris Zabriskie plays the drums on a few of these songs. Lando The Roadie shares a microphone with me during “Show Me How To Shine Shoes”.)

Plus, Jeff Douglas took some great pictures of the show that you can see here, in case you wanna know at it looked like when we played these songs!

Let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy it!

Love on ya,

Here’s a new official bootleg for you all to feast your, urm, ears… upon.

It was recorded in front of a small crowd in Orlando. The night was so rainy that I’m amazed anyone showed up at all. Plus, there was a ton of other stuff going on that evening, but despite the wrath-of-god weather going on just outside of the venue, we had a really good time.

Two things of note about this show:

- The venue had an anti-cover policy that I found out about a little too late. For this reason, songs had to be cut from the setlist left and right, and you’re going to hear that referenced numerous times during this gig.

- I had to use an unreal amount of noise reduction to make this listenable at all, as the feed coming from the PA was basically a wall of static. So, if you hear some “metallizing” during some of the quieter moments, you’ll hopefully remember… this is a bootleg.

- Headphones are your best bet.

Here’s the setlist:

Set One: Just Stop Trying / Try To Just Stop / Nerdy Girls / You’re My Princess / Chicken Pox & Star Wars Guys / A Very Special Episode / If You Loved Me / Stuck With Me / Drunk Classic Rock Fans / Good Night Miss Oliver

Set Two: Calculator / Ammonia / Roll The Tape / Amy, It’s Kevin / Town In Flames / No London In Brazil / Show Me How To Shine Shoes / Love My Little Squiddy / Motherfuckers Be Bullshittin’ / Life’s So Hard / Happy To Be Alive

Encore: All My Drug Use Is Accidental / I Tried To Die Young / Bounce Bounce Bounce / I’m In Love With Everyone I Know

You can download it by clicking this sentence!

After much deliberation, I’m proud (and just a little bit sad) to bring you the fifteenth installment of the Marc With a C “Official Bootleg Series”. It was recorded on 12.11.10 at Stardust in Orlando, FL. Chris Zabriskie played drums during the show, and we did three sets that night. The first was the entirety of the Normal Bias album, the second was the entirety of the Bubblegum Romance album, and the third was an encore set that lasted well over an hour and consisted of pretty much nothing but audience requests.

Thanks to both advances and shortcomings in modern recording technology, I can offer you all that exists from the show: the first set. A hard drive failure means that sets two and three have been lost to the binary gods, and that if you’re sitting on a copy of it, you should let me know immediately. But I’m pretty sure that no one else recorded the show, although you can see lots of pictures if you search for them at the Geek World Order site.

Some things you should know about this show:

- The technical difficulties inherent weren’t limited to the backend, as the PA tried to crap out a bunch of times during “Classic Country Wasn’t Multitracked In ‘61″, There were entire gaps when the song was inaudible in the room, and if you listen in headphones, it should be easy for you to figure out when. The rest of the first set saw the PA crackling and distorting, although the sound cleared up mostly after that, and I wish I could show you, because I think that the second and third sets are far superior to the one I can offer you.

- There was a large group of people that randomly showed up around “Dear Son” and proceeded to talk loudly until around “The Earth Didn’t Move”. Again, if you listen on headphones, you’ll hear it. Distracted me like crazy. Who shows up to Stardust, walks into the video room and proceeds to talk all at once in the one place in the entire plaza that has any sound at all?

- This was the first time I’ve ever played “How It’s Been” onstage, and maybe the fifth time ever for “Dear Son” or “A Tale To Tell”. It also contains the audience participation version of “Happy To Be Alive”, and I’m glad that a really good version was finally captured.

- Normal Bias is my favorite album I’ve made (well, tied with Motherfuckers Be Bullshittin’ and Bubblegum Romance, at least)

Here it is:

Marc With a C – Official Bootleg Series #15, 2010 Holiday Show, Set One, Orlando, FL

01. Introduction
02. Classic Country Wasn’t Multitracked In ‘61
03. Song Song
04. Already Dead
05. Dear Son
06. A Tale To Tell
07. The Earth Didn’t Move
08. Ex-Neanderthal
09. Drunk Classic Rock Fans
10. Town In Flames
11. How It’s Been
12. Happy To Be Alive

Download the zip file right here!

Recorded by Charles Corbett. Post-production work by Marc With a C, Thanks to Stardust for letting us do another marathon show.

Hope you like the show!

Ah, October 2009: when the hearts of young boys and girls turns to that of making lists of the “best albums of the decade”. However, if your list doesn’t include Kirsty MacColl’s Tropical Brainstorm or Casper & The Cookie’s Modern Silence, I simply can’t take it seriously. No offense. (I’m looking at you, Pitchfork).

It’s been a busy few weeks for me, and it won’t be slowing down anytime soon. I’m pretty thankful for that. It helps keep my playing (somewhat) in shape, because unless I’m preparing for a show, I don’t exactly sit around in my garage playing “Nerdy Girls” for fun anymore.

Before my train of thought runs wild, I simply have to talk about the Shock Treatment shows. For the uninitiated, Orlando theater group The Rich Weirdoes took on the unenviable task of shadowcasting the complicated and oft-overlooked sequel to Rocky Horror Picture Show. If you’ve ever seen the film, you’ll have noticed that this would seem like an impossible task, but our favorite Weirdoes pulled it off with aplomb. I was especially impressed with Jamie Lyn Woods and David Mcarty’s respective turns as Janet and Brad. Unbelievable amounts of fun. And, being the good sports that they are, the group allowed me to come in and open each show! I changed up the setlist every night, and happen to have a really good recording of the third night… details below. I can’t thank you all enough for letting me be a part of it, as well as each member of the audience. Everyone treated me really nicely. Except for Joey Fatone, but that’s fine… I’m not impressed with him either.

On Saturday, October 10th, I’ll be playing at the WPRK-palooza festival with folks like Emily Reo, Dark Sea Of Awareness, Pattern Is Movement, Cryptacize and Destroyer. It’s an outdoor event, and I’m playing at the crack of 1:30 PM, but I’m pretty excited for it. Planning on playing some newer gems I haven’t got to do for awhile at this gig. If I ever shake this cold, I’ll be even more excited!

And of course, I’d be absolutely remiss if I didn’t mention the event of the season: NERD INVASION! Seriously. I get to play alongside Schaffer The Darklord, Shael Riley, Krondor Krew, Scrub Club, Zealous1, Dual Core, Benjamin Bear and Dr. Awkward. There will be a “nerdy girl” competition, a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at dawn, and so much more that it’s kind of insane to comprehend how this is all gonna take place in one overnight festival. Regardless, you can get all of the info you’ll need at www.nerdinvasion.com. The fest is taking place November 6-7, so don’t sleep on making arrangements, eh? It’ll also likely be my only tour date until early 2010.

Now, for some ramblings:

- I’ve been listening to Clutch a lot lately. They’re a hard rock group that I was pretty insane about back in high school. Their new album is ridiculously good, and I’m gonna go see them for the first time in about ten years on Tuesday. Just spun their Live At The Googolplex LP album last night to get myself pumped, and… holy hell. That thing just destroys any space that it happens to occupy. Natural disasters should be named after it.
- Over the last year, I’ve become increasingly convinced that Billy Corgan is a member of the Source Family cult, if not the active head. Thanks to all of my late-night internet research, I’ve found myself combing his newer music for clues. Before I knew it, I found myself liking the post-Zeitgeist songs that he was trying out on tour despite myself. I’ve never been very sympathetic towards the guy, and now I’m finding that I’m enjoying music by The Smashing Pumpkins. I know, I’m as surprised as you are.

Say, while I’ve got your attention… how about treating yourself to yet another “official Marc With a C bootleg”? This one is short and sweet, but I think you’ll like it quite a bit…

12/2006 Holiday Show, Austin!

One of the only recorded shows with both Chris Zabriskie and Ryan Price taking turns on the drum stool. Due to faulty wires, it took quite a bit to repair this show for you. Which is why it’s a bootleg, and not an official release, of course. Some songs were totally beyond restoration, but you’ve got twenty songs out of a two hour performance here. Not to mention all of the songs that rarely get performed nowadays…

01. We’re All Gonna Die
02. I Am Going To Fuck Your Life Up
03. Stairway To Rudolph
04. Nerdy Girls
05. Every Single Friend
06. Counting Down
07. When My Ship Comes In
08. Bite Size Help
09. Stuck With Me
10. The Problem Is Me
11. Chasing The Bug
12. I Really Wanna Be Your Friend
13. Can’t Get Her Off Of My Mind
14. No London In Brazil
15. Terror Song
16. Mr. Roboto
17. Music Can Heal
18. She Loves The B-Sides
19. Bounce Bounce Bounce
20. RetroLowFi

On December 27th, 2008 at Stardust in Orlando, FL, I performed the fifth annual Marc With a C holiday show. It was a marathon show that lasted over two hours with a very unpredictable all-request format.

Sadly, most of the tapes proved unusable for release. This wasn’t due to anything all that cryptic: the stage power at Stardust would surge occasionally. Sometimes this meant that the tape machine would shut off altogether, sometimes just one of the stage mikes wouldn’t work, and sometimes… we’d just end up with dimmer lights than we’d started with. In any case, the most listenable portions are really these eleven songs, the first forty minutes of the performance.

This is what remains in a listenable format. Please enjoy it. This will be available for download until January 17th, 2009.

This highly inventive and influential show has had one hell of a guestlist: The Mountain Goats, The Capstan Shafts, Daniel Johnston, Poison Control Center, Lou Barlow, The Dream Bitches… all playing a live show over the telephone! The host Nadav took my fanaticism in stride, and I’m proud to let you all hear the show as the newest installment of the Official Bootleg Series!
