A statement from Marc, 01/01/09.

Hello.

It’s 2009, and this year marks the tenth anniversary of me performing as Marc With a C. I’m proud of what I’ve done in the last ten years, and I’m incredibly excited to kick off a good period of time celebrating what I’ve made. I’m a big stickler for anniversaries and that type of thing, so I have many things in store for the future.

The actual anniversary is in December of 2009, and leading up to that, I’ll be re-releasing all of the official albums digitally through iTunes and those types of avenues. Maybe some other goodies, too.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that the entire Marc With a C tenure and catalog has been done in a defiantly DIY fashion. For this reason, we’ve been able to try out numerous ways of distribution: giving full albums away for free, etc. But what I’ve enjoyed doing the most have been physical releases in limited-edition runs, and getting my wonderful listeners the music of mine that they want to hear at a fair price in the digital formats that everyone seems so crazy about these days.

This music – for better or worse – is the story of my life. It has value to me, and I hope you’ll continue to value it as well. I’ll be spending the next year or so remembering where I came from, taking stock of what I’ve done. And by 2010, I hope to release a particularly ambitious seventh record. I might even get around to touring some.

The most important things to know about the future are as follows:
- there is some free music on this site, and I’d like you to have it. If you like songs from a certain release, chances are that you’ll like the rest of it, too.
- few people are swimming in money nowadays. However, if you like my music and value it, I’d like a few bucks. Call me a capitalist pig if you will. My family likes to eat, and it costs money for me to make music for myself and you.
- my income isn’t solely based on the music I make and the shows that I play. I’d like them to be, and I don’t have a problem telling you that.
- while I wholeheartedly love the lo-fi and nerd music scenes, I don’t exclusively identify myself with any one thing. I make music, I play shows, and I’ll do it for anyone, no matter what your own personal morals are.

So, yes. Thank you for the past ten years. Hopefully you’ll stick around for the next ten, because you’ve been a really swell and loyal fanbase that any sucker with a guitar and a pen would be more than lucky to have, even for one day. I cannot thank you enough for all of your kindness, and all of the time you’ve spent listening to my stuff, reading my silly journals, and watching me pretend to be a rock star in small, confined spaces with raised platforms.

I’ve got the best job in the world. Thank you for giving to me.
