In 2007, we sold out of my first four albums. Faced with a monumental cost to repress them all, we instead opted to released a compilation of fan favorites. The tracklist was voted on by some close friends and big Marc With a C fans. The resulting compilation was titled “What The Hell Is Wrong With Marc With a C?”. The order of the chosen tracks was edited by myself and Chris Zabriskie, but wasn’t done with any real continuity in mind. We just thought it was like a really good Marc With a C mixtape.
In 2008, an 16 year old fan of mine named Sami wrote a synopsis of how she’d turn said compilation into a musical for a school project. I was incredibly flattered, and thought the whole idea was adorable as all-get-out… and she’s given her blessing to allowing me to repost it here for you all to read. So, without further ado, I’d like to present…
Marc With a C: The Musical
(One note before you read… these summations are written by Sami and in no way replicate the intent behind said songs, they are just adorable and fun!)
Scene1: The Problem is Me-
A boy is thinking about his past, and deciding that he’s going to move on and focus on his future. He wants to fix the things that have held him back in his past, and trying to figure out where things went wrong, and while he is taking things slowly, the world is spinning past him.
Scene2: No London in Brazil-
While the boy (Marc) is working towards moving on, he meets a girl. Here, he is reflecting on how the girl is everything different from all the girls from his home town, which pushes him to develop feelings for her.
Scene 3: Nerdy Girls-
Marc, after much debate over whether he should ask out the girl, decides that he is not embarrassed about dating someone who is a ‘nerdy girl’ , and goes for the girl.
Scene 4: Stuck With Me-
He is thinking about his new life, and realizes that even though other things aren’t going perfectly, his girl is dedicated to helping him through. Marc finds that the girl makes him happy with his surroundings, and he wants to focus on the girl, because she’s the constant bright part of his life.
Scene 5: Freezing in Florida-
Sarah, Marc’s girl, has to go to Jersey because of a death in the family, and Marc realizes how tough it is to be without his girl for a long period of time. He is sad, and trying to get used to being without Laura, because he doesn’t know how long it will be until she comes home.
Scene 6: ‘Til You Come Home to Me-
Sarah finally comes home, and Marc is telling her how much he missed her, and wants to her to understand how important she is to him.
Scene 7: Laura, I Need Medicine-
Even though the relationship between Marc and Sarah is running smoothly, Marc becomes paranoid that things are too good. He tries to show Sarah that even though things are great, he isn’t perfect, and in attempts to explain his flaws to her, describes his ridiculous celebrity crush on Laura.
Scene 8: Broken Record Player-
Marc is focusing on fixing the rest of his surrounding life, but keeps coming back to the fact that his record player, one of his favorite objects, is broken. He tries to focus on the rest of problems, but can’t move on until he fixes the things closest to him.
Scene 9: RetroLowFi-
He finally gets his record player fixed, and is revamping his music collection, happy that he is back in touch with his music side. He wants to spread the ‘old-fashioned’ style of playing music, but now can move on to other concerns in his life.
Scene 10: Every Single Friend-
Marc is now focusing on his other concerns, and trying to fix the things that are bothering him currently. He realizes that he needs to fix the way things are going with other people in his life, and finds that he needs to work on being a better friend.
Scene11: I Need a Hug-
Marc gets down because his life isn’t going the direction he hoped it would, and he is staying at home for a day to think about all of the things he’s unhappy about, to get over the things he’s down about.
Scene 12: Life’s So Hard-
After having taken the time to reflect and think about things that need to change, Marc hears other people complaining about things with their life that are wrong, and realizes that it’s petty to waste time on things that aren’t of great importance.
Scene 13: She Loves the B-Sides-
Marc, after having worked out some of his problems, realizes that he has not given Sarah enough attention or credit for sticking with him through the tougher times, and realizes that she is Marc’s biggest fan, and he realizes that he needs to get back into the swing of being a good boyfriend.
Scene 14: Why Don’t Girls like Me?-
After having experimented and made mistakes with other girls, Marc realizes that the only constant in his life is Sarah, and decides that this is the girl that he wants to end up with. Marc asks Sarah to marry him.
Scene 15: Bounce Bounce Bounce-
Fast forward 5 years, Marc and Sarah have a child, Lindsey. Marc goes to his high school reunion, and is telling an old friend about his 4 year old daughter, who has made his life complete.
Scene 16: A Very Special Episode-
At the reunion, Marc runs into an ex girlfriend, and is explaining to her the changes he’s made in his life, and although they can’t get back together, explains that they can be friends.
Scene 17: Bite Size Help-
Marc finds advice and encouragement in Lindsey, while facing the problems of adulthood, mainly with his job, and finds that Lindsey and Sarah keep him sane and running smoothly.
Scene 18: If I Had a Dealer-
Marc looks at the things he’s been through on his birthday, and reflects on previous bad habits, and questions what his life would be like now if he brought the influences back into his current life.
Scene 19: I’m In Love With Everyone I Know-
Marc accepts the people that he’s given a hard time to, and laughs about hard encounters in the past. He decides to enjoy the people around him, rather than holding grudges.
Scene 20- We’re All Gonna Die-
Lindsey asks her dad for advice about school, and things in her future, and Marc (after taking time to think about all of the things he’s gone through) gives her the advice to live in the moment.
