Official Bootleg Series, Volume One… Redux!

Okay, okay! I’ve gotten tons of emails about the first entry into Marc With a C’s Official Bootleg Series. And the general consensus is… no one can download it! I apologize profusely for this, as it’s obviously something on our end that didn’t quite add up. However, I’ve come up witha quick fix in the mean time… you can now download – or simply stream – the entire show at archive.org.

Now, before I give you the exact location, I ask you again to keep the following things in mind:

This show was recorded with the intention of releasing it as an eventual live document_ Ryan Price recorded the show, but a faulty wire left most of Marc’s vocals wildly distorted on the actual recordings, but not in the room. For this reason, many songs were beyond repair from the over two-hour performance, (“Counting Down”, “Laura, I Need Medicine”, “No London In Brazil”, an aborted “Music Can Heal”), and have been deleted from these recordings. However, we’ve mixed it to be as listenable as possible – we strongly advise you to listen on headphones, and since it was such a fun show, we’ve decided to release the most salvagable parts of the concert to you! But, here’s a few things you should know before listening:

- This was the inaugural performance for many of the songs from the “Normal Bias” album. If Marc sometimes sounds unsure with the material, it’s because he was. Especially in “Dear Son”, which was a last-minute addition to the setlist.
- There was an ill-thought-out biblical rant in “I’m In Love With Everyone I Know”. Consider yourself forewarned.
- This doesn’t include the best rendition of “Life’s So Hard” Marc’s ever performed, and he seriously didn’t mean any of the crap he said about Mae or The National. Consider it just a bunch of smack-talk. Like in… wrestling? Yes, wrestling.
- During the nearly hour-long all-request encore, Ryan Price and Chris Zabriskie switch drummer seats quite often
- The audience backing vocals during “Sweet Transvestite” were not provoked by Marc in any way. The crowd did that on their own.
- Towards the end of the show, Marc straps on an electric guitar in public for the first time in nearly four years!
- It wasn’t the best show ever, but there’s actually more “warts” contained in this recording than Marc would have probably kept in had it become an official live record.

I’d like to ask nicely that you try to listen to the show in full, otherwise certain references won’t make sense out of context, but… I suppose you can do what you want with it. Just remember, even though it’s an “official bootleg”, it still sounds like most bootlegs do. Of course, if you were all that concerned with things not being lo-fi, you probably wouldn’t listen to much Marc With a C, huh?

That’s all for now. Hopefully I’ll see you all at the show that’s happening, well… tonight, technically. Sorry again for the technical snafu, but hopefully this will keep everyone happy. Because I’m happy, and I want you to be as well.

Love on ya,
Marc
